Another good source for news information for South Asia is the full text database Factiva.
Factiva is a full-text online service that provides access to sources of national and international news, business, health and general information. News sources include newspapers magazines, media transcripts, wire services, pictures and WEB sites. In addition, FACTIVA provides access to several financial databases. FACTIVA covers 8,000 sources in 22 languages. FACTIVA is a joint venture between Dow Jones and Reuters.
Sources: More than 1,000 newspapers, 6,500 journals and magazines, 270 newswires, 160 media programs, 8,500 WEB sites, 20,000 company reports, 3,000 pictures added weekly.
Holdings: Dates vary. Most publications begin in the late 1980's or early 1990's

Indiastat.com -- Statistical database for India

A good source of statistical information can be found in Indiastat.com. IndiaStat database contains 35 distinct socio-economic classifications and within each of these classifications can be found numerous statistical tables. A number of classifications also are further subdivided into various sub-categories. A large number of tables have very current statistical data, that is, through the current year as well as a large number of time-series tables. Important categories are: Agriculture, Banks and Financial Institutions. Demographics. 9. Economy. Education. Electoral Data. Environment and Pollution. Foreign Trade. Health. Industries. Labor and Workforce. Market Forecast. States and Union Territories. Telecommunication. Urban Areas. Villages. Data can also be browsed by Indian state or industry sector.

Data can be downloaded into Excel or HTML files.

Ethnic Newswatch

Ethnic Newswatch is a full text, comprehensive archival database providing access to more than 400,000 articles in nearly 200 ethnic, minority and native press newspapers, magazines, and journals. Covers 1960 to date. Updated monthly. Ethnic Newswatch has a number of diasporic newspapers of interest to South Asian Studies.

Newspaper Direct -- India

Penn subscribes to a daily newspaper service called Newspaper Direct which offers same-day international newspapers printed for newspaper subscriptions in their original newspaper format. The last 60 days are accessible. India is well covered by this service. Indian newspapers in the following languages are also included: Hindi, Tamil, Gujarati, Malayalam and Kannada. The entire paper is accessible in its original format.

Unfortunately, papers from the other South Asian countries are not yet available on Newspaper Direct.
